Ajman – SSMC and GMU plan joint research activities in cancer, public health and clinical research

Students from Gulf Medical University (GMU) will undergo clinical training and conduct cancer research at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City (SSMC) in Abu Dhabi.

SSMC is a joint venture partnership between Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (Seha) and the United States-based Mayo Clinic. Consultants from SSMC and faculty from the Mayo Clinic will oversee the training of GMU students.

SSMC and GMU are planning joint research activities in cancer, public health and clinical research, which aligns with the research direction of the United Arab Emirates.

Abba Chedi Zubair, Dean of Education at SSMC, said: “We are very impressed with the talent and the infrastructure, and continue to grow to support research, education and clinical practice. We look forward to having many opportunities for collaboration at multiple levels.

Rola K. Alhayek, Education Director at Seha, said: “It is impressive to see the facilities of GMU and Thumbay University Hospital and to learn more about the Thumbay Research Institute for precision medicine… We aspire to improve and expand SSMC’s education and research shields. with regard to recognized international standards. It is essential that we work together and create synergies with existing international and local institutions.

GMU Chancellor Professor Hossam Hamdy added that the collaboration is important as it will provide excellent clinical training for students.

“We share the same vision and values ​​of the Mayo Clinic, (which represent) the three shields of patient care, education and research … Students will also be exposed to the latest developments in care to patients and will interact with and be mentored by excellent faculty. We are happy to have such a partner and hope to take this collaboration to the next level, “he said.
